There is currently a big time demand for donated food, which is clearly evident as a couple of food distribution events recently have been overwhelmed by hundreds of families in need.

This month would have seen the 32nd annual Bar Harbor Bank & I-95 food drive, but unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic had other things in mind for us and the drive was cancelled for the year, as we wanted to do our part in preventing the spread of the virus.

But, kudos to Bar Harbor Bank & Trust for stepping up and matching all food pantry donations made between November 9th and 13th in both the Mount Desert Island and the greater Ellsworth areas.

This month, we would have been on the road and broadcasting from places like Bar Harbor, Blue Hill, Ellsworth and Milbridge, and everything collected would have been donated to the following food pantries and shelter:

  • Bar Harbor Food Pantry
  • Emmaus Homeless Shelter - Ellsworth
  • Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry - Ellsworth
  • MSM Family Food Center – Cherryfield
  • Tree of Life Food Pantry – Blue Hill
  • Westside Food Pantry - Southwest Harbor

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, along with I-95, encourages folks to make a donation to one of these local food pantries right here in our area during the 9th throughout 13th.  Your donation will be doubled by the Bank.

It's always amazing to us when we interview a director from one of these food pantries at one of the remote broadcasts and they tell us of the hundreds of families that they serve any given week during a "regular" year.  After all the wage and job loss the area has recently experienced, just imagine how many families they're serving at this point.

Here's a great opportunity to help people in downeast Maine.
