Black Fly Coffee on 1A in Holden Opens Saturday
It’s the newest coffee shop in the area and since it is a coffee shop they’ll open early.
How early?
How’s 5 a.m. on Saturday morning? Black Fly Coffee Co. will be ready with your coffee at 107 Main Road (1A) Holden, just past the Irving Gas Station.
This was going to be the company’s second location, but the building in Bar Harbor where they used to be located was sold and the new owners did not renew the lease.
So this is now the only location of Black Fly Coffee Company.
For now.
The owners, Dave & Katie Higgins are already talking about growing their business.
They are proud Mainers who have a deep sense of community, especially when it comes to the ‘Buy Local’ mantra.
Their coffee comes from Carrabassett Coffee. The expresso beans are from 44 North of Deer Isle. Want a donut with your drink? They come from Gosselin’s Bakery.
More?
The honey and maple syrup from Karter Farms.
They will also have muffins, grab-n-go snacks, and assorted bottled beverages all as local as they can be.
And bags of coffee that they use, you can buy for your home.
Even the Baristas for Black Fly are local with backgrounds from other coffee shops.
Will we see more locations of Black Fly Coffee?
That’s the plan.
The location will be a drive-thru only, with no inside seating. You can pre-order on your phone and skip the drive-thru line and pick it up at the location. Open the pictured door, and voila, there is your drink.
Maine D.O.T. made sure the driveway into the business has room for 12 cars so as not to impede traffic on 1A. Just follow the arrows.
