Popular Downtown Bangor Shop Will Close At The End Of The Month
A staple for Eastern Mainers who love to make their own beer, wine, soda or local food will be closing their doors for good very soon.
Since 2010, Central Street Farmhouse has been hooking folks up with what you'd call "urban homesteading" supplies. Their 3 story store-front has also been a meeting place for local organization and also a classroom for people who want to learn more about wine-making, beer-brewing or making cheese.
But it looks like all of those things are going to come to an end this month.
According to a recent cryptic social media post, the Central Street Farmhouse will be shutting things down at the end of November.
"Sorry to show up Saturday morning bearing bad news, but this post is overdue.
I've tried and tried to make this work, but the reality of the situation is that the Farmhouse is ending. I will have more to post about later, but for now, know that CSF will be closed by the end of November...As a final side note: I have no interest in suggestions or attempts to explain the situation. Whatever you think the reason is, the store is closing for a variety of reasons that I don't care to dive into. Thank you."
Earlier in the week, another post stated that management was in a dire situation and things didn't look good for the business.
"Everything is bad, folks. There are no sales. I have no money. I can't order anything. I, on a related note, have to get in touch with a bunch of folks regarding orders that I can't fulfill. I am considering shutting down the website so I don't get orders for stuff I don't have. Also, I don't have much in stock. And now the drains are bubbling like they are possessed. This isn't a call for help or an ask for ideas - just a statement of facts."
The owner says while there are still some things that can be sold off, like hops and year and specialty grains, the supply of many other of the usual inventory is either very low or gone.
For those who had registered for upcoming classes, Central Street Farmhouse will be reaching out to those folks to make arrangements. There's also a plan, at a later date, to see off "pieces of infrastructure" like shelves, tables and even the sink for cash.
They recommend trying other local sources like The Natural Living Center for beer and wine making supplies.
