Donate Your Returnables To The SPCA of Hancock County This Saturday

Drop off those empty cans of Bud Light to keep a roof over the heads of our furry friends!

The folks at the SPCA of Hancock County are hoping for some big time community support as they'll be holding their monthly bottle drive this Saturday, February 27th,  between 9 a.m. and 12 noon.

The SPCA is a no-kill facility that cares for hundreds of dogs and cats every year.  Animals that are abandoned, stray, or surrendered for one reason or another are kept at the shelter until they are adopted.  While it takes $ just to keep the lights on and upkeep of the facility, cash is also needed for food, litter, cleaning supplies, toys, and medical bills, which is the shelter's biggest expense.

Chances are that you or someone you know has a dog or cat that was adopted from our local shelter.  By the way, there are animals there right now just waiting to meet you.

But the our SPCA receives no local, state or federal money. Nor is it a member of any other organization. It and the animals held there are totally dependent on the generosity of the community.

Last year, folks at the SPCA shelter collected more than $30,000 in returnable bottles and cans, and this year they hope to exceed that goal.

“We are so grateful for community support and every hard-earned dime donated to the shelter. Already used bottle and can donations are ‘painless,’ a real win-win for everyone,” said SPCA Board member Jamie O’Keefe.

So this Saturday morning, drop your tightly bagged bottles and cans at the SPCA of Hancock County shelter. It's located at 141 Bar Harbor Road in Trenton, or call 207-667-8088 to arrange pick up and someone will drop by.
