Clear That Clunker From Your Yard With Habitat’s ‘Cars For Homes’ Program
Do you have an old car, boat, or RV sitting in your yard collecting dust? Are you trying to find something useful to do with it?
Well, did you know you can donate that vehicle and help folks in the greater Bangor area get into a home?
Habitat For Humanity of the Greater Bangor Area has a program called "Cars For Homes". It's a vehicle donation program. The idea behind it is pretty simple:
1.) You donate the vehicle. (You must have the title to it, in order to make a donation.)
2.) They arrange to come to pick it up (even if it doesn't run) for free.
3.) You get a receipt you can use towards a tax deduction.
4.) They take the car and ultimately turn it into money the organization then uses to help build affordable houses for families in need, in our area.
"We accept almost all vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, farm equipment, and construction equipment."
If you're curious if the program would accept your vehicle, you can always run it through their "donation wizard" to see if it passes muster.
"Since launching the national vehicle donation program, Cars for Homes, in 2005, Habitat has accepted over 160,000 vehicles for reselling or recycling, raising funds for Habitat to partner with local families to build stability and security that a safe affordable home allows.
We make it fast and easy to donate a vehicle and you may qualify for a tax deduction. Your vehicle donations raised over $72 million in just the last five years!"
"In June, the top 36 cars, those selling for more than $5,000 each, generated a total of $242,100. "
All of that is profit that goes towards building these homes.
Just think of it, you'll have that space free once again, and the satisfaction of know your donation goes to help a great cause.
