An Eddington man's arrest was delayed when a woman allegedly assaulted the deputy trying to take him into custody.

When Did This Happen?

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office says the incident began just after 9:30 Sunday morning when Adam Gray, 40, of Eddington was seen getting out of a taxi at a Main Road residence in Eddington. The deputy who saw Gray knew that he had five active warrants out for his arrest and so went to the property to arrest him.

How Did the Woman Allegedly Hinder the Deputy?

When the deputy issued commands to Mr. Gray, he refused to stop and instead entered the house. When the deputy tried to follow him, they were held back by a woman who was at the scene. Ashley Sargent, 38, of Eddington, prevented the deputy's progress and Gray got away. Officials were unable to find him that evening but Ms. Sargent was placed under arrest.

What Charges Do the Two People Face?

Gray was located on Monday morning, just after 9:00, in a vehicle on Davis Road in Bangor and was taken into custody without incident.

  • Ashley Sargent is charged with hindering apprehension, assault, and disorderly conduct.
  • Adam Gray is charged with 5 active arrest warrants, violation of conditions of release, and possession of scheduled drugs.

Both people were transported to the Penobscot County Jail.
