Maine’s Acadia National Park Named One of America’s Best Birding Spots
Birding is the act of observing birds in their natural habitat. For some, it's a beloved hobby. For others, it's a form of citizen science. People from all walks of life are drawn to it, especially in places that are home to a wide variety of bird species.
It also seems like birding is one of those activities many people picked up during the pandemic, and its popularity has remained strong ever since.
So, how does Maine stack up when it comes to birding? Well, we have an answer for you.

The popular birder website birda.org published a list of the top places in America to enjoy the birding. And would you believe it? Acadia National Park made the list.
What Makes Acadia National Park a Great Place for Birding?
Here’s a bit of what Birda had to say about why it chose Acadia as one of the top places in the country for birding.
All year round at Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park, you can find a huge variety of species. A myriad of habitats will find you coastal, swamp and woodland species as this is a spot for many breeding birds like Black Guillemots, Bald Eagles, and Gray Jays. Between May and June, you’ll find the wonderful clown of the sea, the Atlantic Puffin as well as a range of warblers and bobolinks.
Talk about variety. Birda does a great job describing the incredible diversity of birds that can be found throughout the park. It's a fantastic destination for birders looking to check off unique species from their life list.

While it's no surprise to see Acadia on a "best birding" list, it's still exciting to see it earn national recognition. As someone who knows a few birders personally, I can tell you this ranking feels well deserved. With birding continuing to grow in popularity, don't be surprised if Acadia keeps showing up on lists like this.
Is Acadia National Park the Perfect Example of What Makes Maine Special?
Of course, it helps that the park has a charm that truly screams "Maine." It's one of the few places where rugged mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean, creating a landscape unlike almost anywhere else in the country. That incredible mix of forests, wetlands, rocky coastlines, and ocean makes it the perfect habitat for hundreds of bird species. No wonder so many of them call Acadia home. They're no dummies.
