Authorities Identify Remains Found In Lewiston, Maine In January
The remains of a body found in a bog in Androscoggin County have finally been identified.
According to the Maine State Police, the human remains, which were found in the Garcelon Bog in Lewiston, an area that's part of a well-known system of walking trails, are that of a local man thought to have disappeared 5 years ago.
"...Through DNA analysis at the State Police Crime Laboratory, have identified the remains found in the Garcelon Bog at the end of Russell Street in Lewiston on January 25, 2025, as Michael Roberts, 68, of Lewiston. Mr. Roberts was reported missing in November of 2019 to the Lewiston Police Department after wandering off from a Bartlett Street residence."
According to WMTW, retrieval of the man's body was complicated, as heavy machinery had to be employed to break through the freezing water after his discovery.
"Members of the Maine State Police had to use a backhoe to carve a path 200 yards into the frozen bog in order to retrieve the remains.
Authorities say they do not believe Roberts met with foul play or that there's anything suspicious about his manner of death.
