Wanna Buy an Amazing Lighthouse on a Lake in Maine?
I do feel extremely lucky to have a family camp.
We've had the camp in my family for well over 50 years. My grandparents bought it back when they were still young and cool and loved entertaining. And basically, nothing has changed. We still have friends and family out all the time, so that as many people as possible can enjoy it.
We have a super private spot too. It's one of the older camps on the lake, so lots were a bit bigger back then, as opposed to much smaller ones these days. But imagine having your own lighthouse on a private island in the middle of a lake? Basically, all the joy of a lighthouse, without the extreme isolation of ocean lighthouses. Sign me up!
If you move quick, you can buy your own island/lighthouse/cottage right now.
In the town of Canton, near Livermore Falls, there's an amazing little stone lighthouse with a cottage next to it, on an island in the middle of the lake. Locals call it either Canton Lake (obviously), or it's also known as Lake Anasagunticook. The 18' lighthouse serves as a beacon for boats and sea planes.
The little cottage that's on the island is awesome. It's fairly small, just under 500sf, but it's really cool with it's stone interior and vast amounts of daylight streaming in. You'll need to park on the shore obviously, and take some sort of boat over to the property, but you do have you're own shore access that you can even park an RV on.
Right now, it's listed by Adrian Wadsworth of Meservier & Associates and seems to possibly be under contract. But like they say on Facebook Marketplace... If the ad's still up, it's still for sale. It might not be the best choice for a year round home, but I guarantee you'd never regret buying it. Especially when you're waving at people you don't like on the shore!
