Maine Folks Love this Breakfast Cereal More than Almost Any Other
I have to say... I really do love cereal.
We don't keep it around my house as much as we used to. Mostly because left to my own devices, I'll eat cereal three meals a day. That may sound awesome, but at my age, you need a bit more of a well-balanced diet. I need fiber. I need vitamins. I need less sugar. So unless I want to eat nothing but Shredded Wheat, I'm screwed.
I think we can all agree that Shredded Wheat is no one's favorite cereal. I mean, maybe if you hate your life you love Shredded Wheat. Most of us though, prefer something with a little more flair. Perhaps even a prize in the bottom, if we're lucky. It's been so long, I'm not even 100% sure they do cereal prizes anymore.
What's your favorite cereal?
I'd be hard pressed to totally commit to a single favorite, but I do have a soft spot for various flavors of Pebbles Cereal. Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles... you name it. Across Maine, there seems to be a clear arc as to what our favorite is, and I wouldn't say it necessarily fits the national average.
Across the country, I'd say that Cinnamon Toast Crunch seems to be at the top. Right behind it would be Fruit Loops. Both quality breakfast cereals, but it's not the one that Mainers go reaching for the most. In fact, we're the only New England state that seems to have this favorite, according to Zippia.com.
Maine is all about Frosted Flakes.
This actually surprised me a bit. Not sure why, but it did. I know I've eaten my weight in Frosted Flakes over the years. To me, it's one of those cereals you kind of forget about, and then when you have it, it's like running into an old friend you haven't seen in years. Every time, I end up eating like three bowls in a row.
Surprisingly, no state chose Lucky Charms at all. Not surprisingly, hardly any states had favorites that were non-sugary. Most states love their morning bowl of almost-dessert. Although Massachusetts loves Kix. But, I always thought people from MA were weird anyway. Probably their favorite beer is Mich Ultra, too. Do better, Mass...
Speaking of cereal, do remember any of these morning jams from back in the day?
