The Hampden, Maine Subway Location is Finally Back in Business
Call me weird, but I remember my first Subway sandwich.
It was the summer between my sophomore and junior year of high school, and a Subway opened up just up the road from my house. One afternoon, I saw a Subway commercial on TV and decided I just had to go see what the hub-bub was all about. If memory serves me correctly, it was a footlong Veggie, because it was the cheapest, haha.
It's funny, because at this point, I'd never tried an Amato's sandwich, which is what Subway sandwiches were actually based on. I'd eaten my weight in Coffee Pots on numerous occasions, and Italian sandwiches galore. But for some reason, I convinced myself this "sub" was somehow different. Oh, to be young and stupid again...
The Hampden Subway closed unexpectedly in the fall.
It was back in the warmer days of fall when I saw a random post online, that the Subway in Hampden was closing. It came right about the same time it was announced that several other Subway locations were closing temporarily. I'm not 100% sure if all those incidents are related, but the timing fit.
But sure enough, locals started mentioning on social media that the Hampden spot was simply open one day, and closed the next. But, as of yesterday, the Hampden location is back open for business. It's good news to the community, because there are very few options for food right in Hampden. The few that do exist are fantastic, but sheer number of choices is pretty low.
It's still located in the same spot at 7 western Avenue, just off of Maine Road. Online, it lists the house as 10:00am - 8:00pm, Monday - Friday, and on Sundays from 10:00am - 7:00pm, should you need a fix from your local sandwich artist...
