Maine Is On Track To Keep ‘Alcohol To-Go’ Flowing For A While
Most of the time, it's nearly impossible to think of anything positive coming from the early days of the quarantine. Everybody felt stuck inside with nothing to do, and nowhere to go. Eventually from time to time, that makes some folks feel like enjoying an adult beverage or two.
But the shutdown was messing with the hours of certain stores, not to mention the very early times of deciding what was "essential" or not. Liquor stores made the cut of essential businesses. But with many people afraid to leave the house, sales weren't through the roof. Soon enough... alcohol deliveries became commonplace.
The state pushed through legislation changing the rules so that businesses could offer adult beverages either to-go, or by delivery. Talk about a great way to keep drunk people off the roads... just make it easier for them to drink at home! Now it seems that there's some general agreement that this should stick around for a while.

According to Fox ABC Maine, the Committee of the Veteran and Legal Affairs is helping to bring up new legislation that would put a pretty significant extension on the expanded rules. Sen. Louis Luchini, D-Hancock, said this:
Restaurants would really like to have this a resource, so I think if people are good, using that for one year plus extension would be a helpful service. If there is a smaller restaurant without the staff to do it, it’s a service that they could provide.
Personally, I think the added safety alone, of less potential drunk drivers on the road is worth the extension. Why only extend it though? Lots of other states off this kind of convenience, and I'm sure the tourists would definitely love it. This might be a win-win all the way around. But hey... I'm no politician. Thank god! Hahahah.
