Canadian Wildfires Blanket Maine Skies in Smoke: What It Means for You
The sunrise the last couple mornings, have been epic.
Actually, sunsets too, while we're at it. The colors that have been produced have been nothing short of amazing. But sadly, it's because a bunch of Canada is on fire. Wildfires in many areas across Canada, have created such huge amounts of smoke, it's being picked up by the jet stream, and ends up in our skies.

While it can make for some unbelievable sky viewing, it can also make everything look like we're trapped inside a dirty glass of water. Add a little bit of good old fashioned humidity into the mix, and the air looks downright thick. And frankly, it is. It's caused some nasty air quality around Maine, affecting breathing for many people.
People with asthma, older folks, and the very young shouldn't go outside much.
Well, that is to say, these groups of people should consider limiting their outdoor activities. Meteorologist Patrick Osborn from WABI said as much in his forecast for Wednesday into Thursday. As did WMTW in their forecast this week. Even if you don't have any specific breathing issues, it could still make for some hard breathing, depending on what you're doing outdoors.
As the week progresses, maybe things will improve a bit. But as of Wednesday, it's actually supposed to thicken up a bit, before it calms back down some. Of course, there's some rain in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service, so it won't really matter anyway. Hopefully the weekend will end some of this smoke.

But if you've been suffering a bit the last few days, and just hadn't seen the news or whatnot, this is why you may have some trouble breathing. But again, at least the tradeoff is the fantastic sunrises and sunsets we've had. It may not make for everything, but it's at least a faint silver lining, right?
