Old Town Police Need Volunteers for Field Sobriety Test Training

This is perhaps the only way you can fail a Field Sobriety Test without the handcuffs.

Old Town Police are seeking volunteers to help train new police officers. The Old Town Elks lodge will host a training exercise for new officers to become proficient in Field Sobriety Testing. Testing involves a walk-in turn test, a balance test, and nystagmus gaze eye test. It will take place at the Elks Lodge in Old Town Saturday, June 4, at 7:30 p.m.

According to Old Town Elks #1287, "We’re not encouraging the intoxication, rather assisting the police department with training their officers in a safe and controlled environment." For those who are impaired, transportation home will be provided at no legal or financial cost.

The test is performed to prove that you’re sober, and or impaired. It will also show the level of individual impairment while they are performing the tests. Those interested in volunteering just need to stop by the Elks lodge on Fourth St. in Old Town.
