
Glenburn Firefighters & Members Of The Maine DEP Work To Contain Oil Spill On Pushaw Lake Tuesday
Members of Maine's Department of Environmental Protection, along with firefighters from the Glenburn Fire Department, spent time on Pushaw Lake, in the area of Lakeside Landing, on Tuesday, trying to contain and clean up an oil spill that occurred there.

According to a statement released by the Glenburn Fire Department online, first responders were made aware of the issue after someone posted about it on the social media site, Facebook.
"Maine DEP has performed a site evaluation of the spill. Environmental spills can be complex, particularly during winter conditions with freezing temperatures, ice, and snowfall. Pushaw Lake is an important natural resource for our community. Incidents like this serve as a reminder that early notification of spills or environmental concerns helps support timely response efforts and protection of: Water quality, wildlife, shoreline, and recreational access."
Authorities have not yet released the cause of the oil spill.
The post went on to say that it's essential to report spills or environmental hazards to local authorities as soon as possible.

According to the Maine DEP website, there are several ways in which professionals can clean up a mess created by an oil spill.
"Cleanup methods depend on the situation, product, and resource affected. Methods used may include: sorbents, pumps, vacuums, controlled burns, excavating contaminated soils, ground water treatment, and neutralization."
To report an oil spill or environmental hazard in Glenburn, firefighters recommend calling the Glenburn Fire Department at any time, as they are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The non-emergency number is 207-942-6118.

Anywhere else in the State of Maine, you can all 1-800-482-0777 to report an oil spill, 24 hours a day. For other hazardous materials spills, you should call the Maine State Police at 1-800-452-4664.
