A Standish School Student Was Killed After Being Struck By A Bus; Half Brother Of Child On Bus At Time Of Incident
A heartbreaking situation unfolded in Cumberland County on Tuesday morning, as an elementary school student from Standish was struck by a school bus and died at the intersection of Maine Route 114 and Route 35 in Standish.
According to News Center Maine, Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce states that the crash occurred just after 7 AM, with only one child on board at the time: the student's half-brother.
"When first responders arrived, they found an elementary school-aged child had been struck by an MSAD 6 school bus. The child died at the scene...The crash shut down Northeast Road between Route 114 and Moody Road. The stretch of road reopened around 11 a.m. Tuesday."
The report goes on to say that officials from MSAD 6, also known as the Bonny Eagle School District, serving the towns of Standish, Buxton, Frye Island, Hollis, and Limington, have confirmed that the child who passed was a student at the Edna Libby School.

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine offered its condolences to the young life lost and pointed to the high number of pedestrian and bicycle/motor vehicle crashes, rising to an epidemic level.
"What we do know is that 2025 has been one of the deadliest years in recent memory for people walking and biking in Maine. These are not isolated incidents. They are symptoms of a public health crisis playing out on our streets. No family should experience this loss."
The coalition says to date this year, about 26 pedestrians/cyclists have been struck and killed by motorists.
