How do I even begin these cancellations anymore? At this point, I'm not sure any cancellations surprise me, I think now I'm more surprised by the few holdouts that wait til the last minute and see if something magical is going to happen. But we've lost most sports, high school sports, concerts, events, and now... The Festival of Lights Parade.

The Bangor Rotary Club announced yesterday, that with concerns of social distancing, etc., that they were dimming the lights this year. It really is sad. You can take a lot of things, but now COVID is messing with the holiday season. It's bad enough that everyone's Thanksgiving may look different, but no holiday parade?! Ouch.

On the other hand, safety should be their priority, so we should thank them for not making the Light Parade a potential super-spreader event. But... The Rotary doesn't intend to just let the holidays slide by unnoticed. According to a post on the Bangor Rotary Facebook page, they still want to light the city right up, and they'd love to hear what you think about that.

If you want to share your thoughts and ideas with them, you can reach out to them at bangorroatry.org, or you can go right to their Facebook page and get in touch with them there. Heck, you probably clicked on this article through Facebook anyhow, so you're already halfway there. The Rotary will announce their plans in the coming weeks.

I know, it's tempting to blame people, or argue, or feel like the holidays are canceled, but organizers just want people to be safe. And, if next year comes around, and events slowly start coming back to life, every day is going to feel like Christmas. So I suppose there's at least a modestly positive spin to be had, right?
