Turkey Day Could Be A Tough One This Year Due To Supply Issues
But it's still September?!
You'd think we wouldn't have to worry about Thanksgiving already, yet here we are. There are farms here in Maine, that have already sold out of turkeys for this year. Heck, Harris Turkey Farm in West Newfield said they were out of turkeys in July, according to News Center. But it's just not the turkeys we have to worry about.
It could be all parts of the dinner. You've likely seen it on the news at this point, that grocery stores are having trouble getting all the things they ordered. Some stores are complaining that they're being shorted over 25% of the items they ordered for their stock. So thinks like cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin, etc., are harder to come by.
What can we do, then?
Simple.... start getting stuff for your dinner now. Order your turkey ahead. Start getting your pumpkin, and bread crumbs. Grab an extra can of cranberry sauce now. Do whatever you can to set yourself up for success, before you become one of those people in Hannaford, yelling and screaming over the last can of pumpkin.
On the other hand, you'll have saved yourself all the trouble of the last minute shopping usually associated with Turkey Day. And that's the point, the more people set themselves up now, the less hassle it'll be for everyone come November. Not to mention, 2021 has proved that doing anything last minute, isn't a great idea.
With any luck, over the next several months, these supply chain issues can work themselves. Once businesses can get fully staffed again, and get back to work, these issues will likely take care of themselves. But don't be a pumpkin chump, and wait too long, because Thanksgiving is becoming the new Hunger Games.
