Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Last night I grabbed my ghost detector and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see 'Crimson Peak'

This is a fantasy, horror, drama that runs just under 2 hours. The film is R for bloody violence, some sexual content and brief strong language. ‘Crimson Peak’ stars Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Burn Gorman.

Summary:

This is a ghost story set back in the early 1900’s. It follows the life of Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) who has had the ability to see ghosts since the death of her mother while she was only a child. The story then picks up with Edith as a adult and her whirlwind romance with a mysterious foreign stranger (Tom Hiddleston) who travels with his sister (Jessica Chastain) looking for financial backing for a brick operation. After Edith’s father finds out unsavory details about the brother and sister he strikes a deal with them to leave town and his daughter alone. But after accepting his offer and preparing to leave the father meets with a violent end leaving Edith an heiress to be swept away to Crimson Peak.

Review:

I love a good ghost story, in fact one of my favorite movies is “Ghost Ship’ That said this was not really a good ghost story. For one thing although gory in placed with we’ll meaning spirits is isn’t really scary. Also, the story is very predictable and has many …’you paid your money now roll with it’ plot moves. Left me giving it a shrug and on a scale of 1 – 10, I am giving ‘Crimson Peak’ a 4.
