Summary:

In this second installment of ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ we find Sonny (Dev Patel) and Mrs. Donnely (Maggie Smith) after refurbishing the hotel with dreams of expanding to a second location. However, to purchase the new location and bring the dilapidated hotel up to scratch they must get an investment by a partner company. So the investors decide to send a scout to assess the running of the hotel and whether to invest. Meanwhile, Sonny is planning his wedding and the other residents are facing their own changes. New jobs, new love and the question of how many do-overs can a person get in their life.

Review:

I’ll start by saying if you are going to this film it would do you well to see the first one first. The chemistry between these actors is great and the situations timeless. Add to that, India can look so beautiful that alone is worth sitting through this film for.  I loved that it covers things so basic to each one of us you really can’t help but want to know how it will all work out, love and fear and future and present.  The writing is brilliant, comedy is subtle but undeniable.  No one can deliver dead pan like Maggie Smith. I do need to confess it had a few slow spots but always got itself back on track.  So on a scale of 1-10, I’m giving ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ an 8.
