Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I grabbed my high school yearbook and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘The Gift”

This is a psychological thriller, mystery that runs 1 hour and 48 minutes. The film is rated R for language and stars Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall, Joel Edgerton, Busy Philipps, David Denman

Summary:

Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robin (Rebecca Hall)  are a young married couple who move back to the town where Simon grew up. In his new life he has a new job, new house and possible promotion. Life is good. However, while shopping for things for their new home they run into an old high school mate of Simon’s who begins bringing them gifts and befriending Robin. When Simon becomes uncomfortable with the attention he decides to shun Gordo’s (Joel Edgarton) friendship sending their lives into a harrowing tailspin and brings a horrifying secret to light after more than 20 years.

Review:

This movie was not what I had expected really.  It is a ‘Gaslight’ kind of psychological thriller more than ‘Psycho’ style. The trailer’s “You may be done with your past but the past may not be done with you” sums up the plot nicely. The cast does a nice job and it contains a few good jumps for you. Sedate but effective I am giving ‘The Gift’ an 8.

Show me everything playing right now at the Bangor Mall Cinemas
