Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I grabbed a croissant and a bag of curry and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’.

This movie runs just under 2 hours, is a drama and is Rated PG for thematic elements, some violence, language and brief sensuality. This film stars Helen Mirren, Manish Dayal, Rohan Chand, Charlotte Le Bon, Om Puri. And not for nothing it was produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey

Summary:

The story in this film follows the Kadam family from India in their move to France after the loss of their mother. Where while in pursuit of a new beginning the father sets his heart on buying a restaurant across the street from a celebrated French restaurant where the owner Madame Mallory does not appreciate the their food or their culture. Tensions rise along with a friend ship between talented cook Hassam Kadem and Madame Mallory’s sous-chef Marguerite. Who on a side note: looks enough like Wynona Ryder to be her daughter.

Review:

One thing I have grown to rely on over the years is actor who consistently choose good scripts and projects to be a part of, Helen Mirren is one of those I have come to trust.  Add to the Spielberg and Winfrey and needless to say I came in with large expectation. Good news is this film did not disappoint. For one the landscape in France is breathtaking.  Epic in scale and yet so charming and natural up close.  The story touched my heart from the very beginning with a recognizable love of family, food and an innate understanding of loss and dreams… with a dash of passion. A beautiful story that will show you a person’s vulnerable best.  On a scale of 1-10, I’d to give ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’ a 10.
