Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says another man has been arrested following a police chase that took place this Tuesday afternoon around 2 PM.

State Troopers started pursuing 39-year-old Jason Hewett of Augusta, in the vehicle he was driving, for his connection to the death in Cushing. The chase began along Route 2 in Windsor, when Hewett started to try to get away.

"[Hewett] traveled north on Route 32 toward China, took Route 3 toward Augusta, and in an effort to avoid spike mats placed on Route 3 in Augusta he drove into a ditch and onto the lawn of Nadeau Chiropractic and Wellness Center. Hewett then barricaded himself inside his vehicle. The Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded. "

Moss says after a few hours of negotiations, Hewett eventually gave himself up to authorities peacefully and was taken to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility.

He will face charges of Eluding and Officer.

Moss says Hewett is also being charged with Domestic Assault and Manslaughter in connection with the Cushing death.

The State's Chief Medical Officer has identified the victim as 45-year-old Kyle MacDougall of Waldoboro. Moss says they are not releasing the cause or manner of his death.
