A popular destination for those exploring Acadia National Park needs some TLC.

There's nothing quite like the roar of Thunder Hole. Visitors flock to witness the ocean come crashing and splashing into the rock formation. For the next two months the site will be off limits as necessary repairs are tackled before tourist season.

Acadia’s Chief of Facilities Management Keith Johnston told WABI-TV: 'We are kicking off a contract to repair a lot of failing masonry, so the mortar in between all the blocks of granite that are veneer along the structure, all the lime has leached out, we’re left with nothing but sand. So all the blocks are basically falling out of place. It’s not stable and needs to be rebuilt.'

While closed, you can still take in the sights from a distance on the Park Loop Road.

Thunder Hole will reopen Memorial Day Weekend.
