Bangor PD Teaming Up With Bangor Businesses To Help Area Seniors & Pets
This weekend you'll have a chance to help local seniors, and local pets, all in one stop AND pick up some delicious lunch, too.
The Bangor Police Department and the Eastern Area Agency on Aging are teaming up with a handful of local businesses to make sure the Furry Friends Food Bank is stocked up for the upcoming fall/winter season.
According to their website, the Furry Friends Food Bank program was created to help older folks, who may be on a fixed income, still provide for their beloved pets.
"Many low-income older adults are unable to access nutritious food for their pets and resort to sharing their own meals with them...FFFB is committed to providing supplemental pet food to qualifying program participants, so they don’t need to worry about how to obtain or afford nutritious food for their pets from month to month."
Sgt. Jason McAmbley, Public Information Officer for the Bangor Police Department says anyone who makes a donation of pet food or cash for the cause is welcome to come have some lunch!
"From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at 1670 Broadway in Bangor, Broadway Self Storage, Dirigo Auctions and Sales, and Sensory Therapy Place will be holding a ‘Fill-a-Storage-Unit’ event at the newly remodeled Broadway Self Storage in Bangor."
"Community members are encouraged to visit the new business’ and drop off pet food
supplies or a monetary donation to benefit Furry Friends through Eastern Area Agency on Aging. Many Seniors make the difficult decision every day to feed themselves or their family pet.
Any pet food or monetary donation will be rewarded with a free BBQ lunch."
If you'd like more information on the event, McAmbley says you can contact Broadway Self Storage by calling 947-6404. If you want to learn more about the Furry Friends Food you can call the Eastern Area Agency on Aging at (207) 941-2865 or email them at info@eaaa.org.
