I suppose not needing a reason to run is best.

It's weird, every now and then I look back on my life and sort of wonder out loud how I didn't end up in more trouble in my adulthood. Not that I was a bad kid, but I haven't even had a speeding ticket. I've never had any run-ins with the law that weren't easily resolved. In high school... I probably got in enough trouble to make up for the rest.

I also think it's weird when people do break the law or something similar, and decide the best course of action is to run. They seek out hideouts that never seem to work out. Either it was a miserable spot to begin with, or someone ratted them out. I think the only reason the North Pond Hermit got away with being on the lam as long as he did, is because no one ever reported him missing. He didn't exist.

Most people who break the law don't have that luxury.

Normally, people on the run are trying to avoid something. The law, an ex... you name it. The other day I saw this thread on Reddit, and at points laughed out loud, and at others decided people really may be onto something. Not that I have a need to run away, but I guess it's always good to have an ace up your sleeve.

Some folks listed the Maine woods as an obvious spot to hide. Others had more radical suggestions, like the inside of the LL Bean boot down in Freeport. That's not actually hollow, by the way. But I love that person's ability to think outside the box.

Because that would be the key wouldn't it? You'd have to really find a place either so remote, or so obvious, that no one would think to look there. Like someone said to hide in Boston. After all, there's a ton of folks to blend in with and everybody would be looking for you in Maine anyway. It checks out, I guess.

Anyway, let's see what other Mainers thought the best places to hide were...
