
Blaze In Kitchen Causes Fire At Eddington Apartment Building Thursday
Firefighters from 5 towns across Penobscot County responded to an apartment fire in Eddington on Thursday morning. Dispatchers were called to 32 Riverside Drive for reports of a kitchen fire that had gotten out of control. The call came in just before noon, according to officials with the Eddington Fire Department.
Penobscot County Sheriffs and DOT worked together to shut down part of Route 178 (Riverside Drive) for a short while during the effort.

By the time crews arrived, heavy fire was coming out of the windows from the first-floor apartment of the two-story complex. There are six apartments in total within the one building.

Firefighters were able to evacuate all of the people from the premises, along with a few of the pet cats within the building. However, it's reported that there were a couple of cats that did not make it out of the building and died.

Crews were able to get the fire knocked down within 10 minutes of their arrival, according to fire officials.
"The fire was contained to the apartment of origin. No injuries to report to tenants or firefighters. Cause of the fire was ruled accidental, kitchen stove fire."

We're told the American Red Cross is working with the displaced tenants to find shelter until they can make other arrangements.
Crews from Orrington, Dedham, Brewer, Holden, and Milford assisted Eddington's firefighting efforts.
