....Only if you believe in the power of politics....

I feel like this comes up every year now. Of course, some people love the idea of 'gaining' an hour of sleep, and some thing 'losing' an hour is just dumb, and still others think it's just plain old stupid to be messing with the clocks every year. Personally, I somehow fall into all these categories, haha.

But more often, you hear about individual states, or even a few neighboring states, saying they'd just like to be rid of all this clock changing. It's history dates back a couple hundred years to give farmers and field workers more daylight to work in. Which in reality, just meant people didn't have to get up an hour earlier.

But these days, with the advent of things like electricity and alarm clocks, manipulating an entire country's circadian rhythm to satisfy a niche group of workers seems a bit off. These days, it would seem those folks can find their own way out of bed and get to work. The rest of us have to, so why not them?

But Florida Senators Mark Rubio (R) and Rick Scott (R) are proposing on a national level, that we finally rid ourselves of this temporal albatross, according to WGME - TV13.

The bill would provide one year of stability for families who are already dealing with enough change with virtual learning, work from home, and other disruptions the COVID-19 pandemic has placed into our daily lives... Our government has asked a lot of the American people over the past seven months, and keeping the nation on Daylight Saving Time is just one small step we can take to help ease the burden.

I suppose COVID is as good a reason as any to do away with oldy-timey workarounds that have little impact on our lives at this point. In Maine, we need to 'fall back' and just stay there. I certainly don't want kids hanging out at the bus stop in the dark, and it will get darker sooner in summer, but the line would have to be drawn somewhere.

At this point, there are several states and congresspeople on board, but lets' be real... The whole world has bigger fish to fry right now. I seriously doubt that in this crazy election year, there will be any traction in getting this law passed. Although, it's 2020. We've learned all bets are off this year, and that anything's possible.

Maybe you care, maybe you don't. I'd love to see it go away, and I bet we will in our lifetime. On the other hand, it's pretty insignificant. It's like that pile of old paint cans in your garage... they gotta go, but it'll be a loooong time before you finally get to it. If only we could paint our houses with the stupidity of daylight saving time....
