The boys in green will be patrolling off MDI and beyond in a spiffy new Maine built boat named after a Milbridge fisherman!

Built by the Surry-based Wesmac Custom Boats, the Sergeant is equipped with an 803 horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine, a hydraulic lobster trap hauler and a cradle for a smaller rigid hull inflatable boat, according to a recent press release from the Department of Marine Resources.

"As more lobster fishing activity occurs off-shore, we needed a boat that we could use to safely get to and from gear that is as far as 50-60 miles from shore," said Marine Patrol Sergeant Troy Dow.

The new patrol boat was named after Stanley "Cappy" Sargent, a well-known fisherman and advocate for the industry who lived in Milbridge for many years.  He piloted the Gale Warnings II, a 42-foot fishing Wesman boat. Sargent passed away at the age of 51 in July of 2016.

The christening took place in Southwest Harbor with Cappy's wife Tina breaking the ceremonial bottle across the bow.
