Thomas Hill Standpipe to Open for Summer Tour Wednesday
This week the Thomas Hill Standpipe will open for a summer tour.
The Thomas Hill Standpipe opens for a summertime tour this week. The Standpipe tours give visitors a rare opportunity to climb to the top of the historic structure for a stunning 360-degree view of Bangor and beyond. The summer tour is Wednesday, July 20, from 4-8 P.M.
The tours are free of charge. It should be noted the standpipe is not handicap accessible, with 100 stairs leading to the promenade deck.

The standpipe was built in 1897 and is designated as a National Historic Landmark by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. The standpipe's iron water tank holds 1,500,000 gallons of water.
