It may be slightly off the beaten path, but Wicked Brew Cafe has been a staple for folks who live, work, and go to school in Bangor and who love coffee, delicious baked goods, and local art.

Those who set foot inside are instantly greeted with sweet smells, the soft murmur of friendly conversations, and the colorful sight of paintings and pottery.

I have many fond memories of meeting friends for hot beverages at Wicked Brew or bringing my daughters there for baked treats.

It's been a little hidden gem in the Downtown area for quite a long time. Sadly, Wicked Brew has closed it's doors.

Announcing on their Facebook Page Tuesday afternoon, the owners thanked their loyal supporters for visiting them throughout the years. Wanting to offer the public a final parting gift, they made a sweet gesture.

"To our valued customers, it is with great regret that we announce the closure of Wicked Brew...due to unforeseen health issues and a desire to prioritize family, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors. As a token of our appreciation, we offer you the opportunity to purchase a piece of Wicked Brew memorabilia. Please contact us through Facebook with your interest, and we will set it aside for you."

Within an hour of making the announcement, hundreds had flooded the comment section of the post with well-wishes, voicing their sadness at the news of the closing, but their understanding and support as well.

"I’m so saddened to hear this. Wicked Brew was one of my favorite places to go. Excellent food, coffee, service, and ambiance. It’s even where my boyfriend and I went on our first date. My best to all of you and healing of all health issues. Take care."

"Loved this place. Very special for so many reasons. We will miss you guys so much. Family should always come first so I'm sending you all my heartfelt thanks for being such a unique and lovely space filled with yummy food and caffinated dreams. Best wishes to you all going forward."

Yet another commented about just what a void the coffee shop's closing would leave in the Bangor Community.

"I’m so sad to hear this. Wicked Brew was my favorite place in Bangor—the people, the drinks, the food, the decor and atmosphere, everything. I support you taking care of yourself, but oof, what a hole this will leave in our community."

We wish them the best in whatever their next steps may be.
