Flick Chick Review ‘American Ultra’

Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I went under deep cover and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘American Ultra’

This is an action, comedy that runs 1 hour and 36 minutes. The film is rated R for strong bloody violence, language throughout, drug use and some sexual content and stars Kristen Stewart, John Leguizamo, Topher Grace, Jesse Eisenberg, Connie Britton

Summary:

Mike Howell (Jessie Eisenberg) is a young man without much ambition who suffers from anxiety to the point that he can’t seem to leave town without throwing up. He and his girlfriend Pheobe Larson (Kristen Stewart) live a simple life of working and getting stoned or so it seems. Things change quickly when the government program that trained him to kill and then repressed his memories decides that he is too dangerous to live and begin hunting him down only to realize that he is more of a killer then they could ever hope to be.

Review:

American Ultra is an interesting story with plenty of twists and turns. Jessie Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart play characters that fit their strengths. Both a little reminiscent of other roles they have played but the script and tertiary characters shake it up enough to hold your interest. Topher Grace’s character is a little over the top to be believed. Over-all more action and comedy but a few good funny lines. I’m giving ‘American Ultra’ a 7.
