Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Due to the slim pickin’s of new releases over the weekend I headed to the Bangor Mall Cinemas and ‘The Identical' won the draw. Truth be known it was the only name in the hat.

This movie runs just 1 hour and 45 minutes, is a music, drama and is Rated PG for thematic material and smoking. This film stars Ashley Judd, Ray Liotta, Seth Green and new comer Blake Rayne.

Summary:

The story starts out during the depression.  One family struggling to survive has twins and a preacher and his wife lose another baby and pray for a miracle. That’s when the struggling couple decides to give one of their sons to the preacher and his wife to raise as their own with the promise they will never tell him who he really is until they are dead and gone. Later on in the 50’s and 60’s one brother becomes a Rock n’ Roll star while the other is denied his musical dreams by his father’s insisting that he go into the ministry. The story follows his struggle to figure out who he really is.

Review:

Where to begin. The overall story of ‘The Identical’ wasn’t that bad but some of it was a bit contrived and hard to believe that it would have gone that way.  Also, for some reason you really got the low budget feel with this film.  Not sure why because it had a good cast and Blake Rayne did a fine job.  I think part of it was the fact he looked so much like Elvis that you wondered if this was supposed to be a story about him…it isn’t. (Turns out Blake Rayne has won Elvis Impersonator competitions) Then there is the glaring lack of curiosity on his part as to why he looks and sounds so much like this other guy and vice versa when his twin walks into a competition where he is performing and doesn’t want to meet him. In a nut shell it wasn’t awful but it felt like a made for TV Hallmark type movie to me.   On a scale of 1-10, I’d to give ‘The Identical’ a 6.
