Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I went to the Bangor Mall Cinemas and due to a technical glitch I couldn't see a new release so instead I packed up my emotional baggage and wandered into 'This Is Where I Leave You'.

This movie runs just under 2 hours, is a drama, comedy and is Rated R for language, sexual content and some drug use. This film stars: Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Jane Fonda and Timothy Olyphant.

Summary:

When an adult family’s father passes away the four siblings are forced by their mother (Jane Fonda) to return to their childhood home as their father’s last request and live under the same roof together for a week to complete a Jewish ritual.  During the week together, each family member comes face to face with their over-sharing mother, each one's personal issues plus an assortment of spouses, exes, family dynamics and many of life’s other might-have-beens.

Review:

At first blush this movie moves painfully slow and for obvious reasons is quite depressing. However, once all the characters are established and we are acquainted with everyone’s ticks and sad stories it definitely picks up and has a more than a few funny moments, especially for anyone with siblings. The cast has good chemistry and the story does manage to engage you with many understandable family themes that leave you rooting for them. So on a scale of 1-10, I can only give 'This Is Where I Leave You' an 8.
