Platner, backed by Senator Bernie Sanders, told a packed town hall in Damariscotta on Monday night that his own party is ‘trying to destroy my life.’

Facing backlash over resurfaced offensive online posts since Governor Janet Mills entered the race, Platner blamed the Democratic Party but insisted he is still running as a Democrat.

Platner told supporters that despite the criticism and personal attacks, he feels he has no right to quit or give up.

He has apologized for past offensive comments and denied knowingly getting a tattoo linked to Nazi imagery.

Mills blasted Platner on Monday, saying she ‘vehemently disagrees’ with his past comments and his tattoo, which she called abhorrent.

That same day, Platner’s campaign manager resigned, but Platner vowed to continue his run, saying his campaign to ‘shuck the oligarchy’ is about pointing fingers upward, not left or right.
