Large EMS Presence Expected On Broadway For Ellis Funeral Monday Morning
A large emergency services presence is expected on Broadway in Bangor this morning, as members of Maine's law enforcement and fire departments gather to pay tribute to one of their own.
Jim Ellis, who spent time working for both the Holden and Eddington Fire Departments, the Penobscot Sheriff's Office, and the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office, passed away unexpectedly last week. News of his passing left the EMS community in Eastern Maine stunned and saddened.
They will gather today, to lay their brother to rest and celebrate his life. His funeral will be taking place at the Anah Shriner building at 1404 Broadway in Bangor at 11 AM.
The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office issued a statement today, regarding the service:
"The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office general business offices will be closed today as members of the office attend funeral services for Lt. James Ellis. Law enforcement patrol coverage and our correctional facility will remain operational. We appreciate the assistance of both the Piscataquis County and Hancock County Sheriff's Offices."
Governor Mills has directed that all flags in Penobscot County be flown at half-staff, from sunrise to sunset today, in honor of Ellis and his career full of service to the state.
There will be folks directing traffic in and out of the facility in town, before and after the funeral, but motorists are advised to be aware that there will be heavier traffic than usual around that area of town, for most of the midday.
We send our sincerest condolences to the Ellis family, and all local EMS personnel today as they process the loss of such a dedicated public servant, friend, and family member.
