Police in Bangor say someone has been using a van as a shield in several "Smash and Grab" motor vehicle burglaries around the city.

Sergeant Jason McAmbley, Public Information Officer with the Bangor Police Department, says authorities believe they are looking for multiple suspects who are making use of this van, not only as a method of transportation but also as a means to hide or block what they're doing from the public eye.

"The suspect vehicle is a gray ("gunmetal") newer Chrysler Pacifica, possibly a rental vehicle with only a rear Maine passenger car plate with four numbers and two letters."

McAmbley says they believe they're looking for at least two people; one driver, and someone who sits towards the back of the van.

"No one is seen getting out of the van, but parks a bit askew as it moved and parked in different spots. They are using the sliding door in the van to access the vehicle without having to actually get out of the vehicle, driving close to a car and then breaking into it."

The police say this may not be the first time these suspects have committed crimes like this. They think they may be connected to a similar "smash & grab" crime spree that happened in Hancock County.

If you know anything about these incidents or this van, please reach out to the folks at the Bangor Police Department. Officer Curtis Grenier is handling the case. You can call  947-7384, and dial extension 5739 to get him, or you can email him at curtis.grenier@bangormaine.gov.
