Major Winter Storm Expected For Bangor & Downeast Areas
Looks like a very messy situation will be moving into the Bangor and downeast areas by late tonight and then continuing throughout the day tomorrow.
The National Weather Service tells us that a Winter Storm Warning has been posted that begins tonight at 11 for the downeast area of Maine and then a little later at 2 a.m. Tuesday for the Bangor area. The Warning will continue until 11 Tuesday night.
Heavy snow is expected to move into the area late tonight and continue throughout the day Tuesday, mixing with sleet at times. Bangor and it's surrounding areas are expected to receive up to 6 to 10 inches of snow with an additional accumulation of sleet and ice. In downeast areas like Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, a little less snow will fall, as between 5 to 9 inches along with a layer of sleet and ice is expected there.
Winds in Bangor will be gusting as high as 35 miles per hour and even more so downeast as that area will likely see gusts up to 45 mph.
