New Year’s Day Crash Knocks Power Out To Part Of Bangor
A New Year's afternoon car crash left over a thousand Bangor residents without power Monday. It happened around 4:15 PM.
According to Sgt. Jason McAmbley, Public Information Officer with the Bangor Police Department, the incident began when a man from Bangor, driving a black pick-up truck struck a pole and then a building along Corporate Drive in Bangor.
"[The] Driver stated they blacked out and woke up after the car stopped moving. Two witnesses saw the vehicle go off the road, go through a utility pole, then strike a building. The driver was transported to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries."
The impact to the building was enough to cause structural damage to at least one wall of the building.
McAmbley says there were no other vehicles involved.
A spokesperson for Versant Power says when the initial pole was hit, it affected several other poles in the area. In total, 5 poles were damaged as a result of the crash, leaving 1,640 people without power for about an hour. All but 65 customers had their power back by 5:30 PM Monday, with the remainder having power restored by 10:30 AM, Tuesday morning.
