Maine Ice Cream Franchise Opens 6 Locations On Coldest Day Of Year
I love Mainers for so many reasons, not the least of which is that while most normal people find the thought of venturing out into air that hurts your teeth to breathe absolutely ridiculous, we figure that it's the best time to go for a drive to our local ice cream stand and grab a cone!
With this in mind, it only makes sense that one of Maine's most popular ice cream shops, Fielder's Choice, opened all 6 of their ice cream locations in Maine this past Wednesday...a day in which meteorologists forecasted the high to be in the teens, with a wind chill factor that put temps in the negative.

"The wait is over! Starting tomorrow, Wednesday 1/22, all six Fielder’s Choice locations will be open! See you there!"
Last year, management decided to open at the end of February. While we're not sure why they moved this year's date up, those who live and breathe ice cream were not saddened by the news.

Fielder's Choice, which has shops in Sabbattus, Manchester, Old Orchard Beach, Auburn, and Brunswick, opened its Bangor Stand in July 2020.
Some years the Bangor location has stayed open through the winter, providing one of the only ice cream drive-thrus in the area, outside of the Dairy Queen in Old Town.
While it makes sense, from a business standpoint, to close down at least for a couple of the winter months, like Spencer's, Giffords and the Broadway Dairy Queen do, by remaining open or shortening the length of their seasonal closing, they have enamored themselves to those of us ice cream die-hards who are will to travel in a blizzard for a scoop of their homemade cherry vanilla or butter crunch hard serve.
While they may not be open yet, there are many favorite ice cream stands across Maine. See if yours made the list!
